The combination here is a whipple supercharger on top of a Cummins diesel. Cool. I thought so too. Something oil burning that's NOT a turbo for once. But wait! There's more to this. The problem here is the supercharger has to be geared up 2x as much to use it's pumping ability and with a low turning 3,000 RPM engine, that means even at idle its singing it's whiny song. I know exhausts can drone on in cruise making daily driving difficult, but this is ear plug necessary if you wanted to, say, drive any distance over a half hour. So, what say you readers? What other AWESOME parts are just above annoying to use on a regular basis?

The Le Rhone rotary engine. You can't refill the castor oil every time you drive, and scarfs don't go with everything.

True, and if mounted in front, the vapors of that castor oil will make you run to the outhouse every hour.

Thus sabotaging sir's efforts to remain as a sir. Fie, I say! Fie!

As much as I love my turbo sound, there are days where I wish I had someway of turning off the intake noise. I think any modification that makes the car louder can get annoying on the wrong day

I think pretty much all the race clutches are too annoying to drive normally. That's the first thing that comes to mind.
And yes, that supercharger whine is extremely annoying on that truck. My god.

I drove a friends Mazdaspeed3, compared to my regular mazdaslow3, and that clutch was pretty much like a compound bow. its in or out. A seriously hard race clutch would definitely be tough to live with. Come to think of it, I'm sure someone somewhere is trying to daily drive a straight cut dog box transmission. That shriek would be unmanageable.

You get used to it, but yes. When I bought mine I peeled out of the dealership by accident, and then proceeded to stall it about 3 times on the test drive. I'm still not the smoothest on starts because the friction point is just so incredibly small.

Corrected. I was searching specifically for v8 supercharged diesels to see if anyone put a 6-71 on a big ford or chevy and really this is about the only thing that reasonably came up demonstrating the theory in practice...and it was shrill!
Thank you for pointing out the error.

That's not a V8. Here is a supercharger on top of a V8 diesel:
Or here:
And an old school 2 stroke V8 diesel:

This is annoying.
But, kudos for the manual cummins!

No prob.
I know you're talking about something like a polished Weiand on top of a Power Stroke or Duramax V8 in a pickup.
However, technically, you could say a Roots 6-71 blower is a "Chevy" diesel part. The modern 6-71 supercharger design is based on the blower* for the Detroit Diesel 6-71 engine (as are the 8-71 and 12-71). Detroit Diesel used to be the diesel division of GM.
*In these applications, the blower is just for that: blowing. It is a scavenge pump, not a supercharger

I tried to correct it but the hotel internet sharted all over the data and disallowed anything. Now at the airport it works. Awesome videos contributed. Thank you.
